"It's not your yankee momma's clam chowda!" - C. Ogier

Ingredients
5-6 quarts of water
2/3 cup old bay seasoning
2 pounds new red potatoes (the smaller the better), cut in half
2 pounds of your grandmothers hot smoked sausage links (or whatever hot sausage you like) cut into 1-2 inch pieces
12 ears of corn, husked, cleaned and quartered
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
2-4 pounds of shrimp, unpeeled (or peeled for you sissies out there)

Directions
Lightly brown sausage (2-3 minutes or so- don't cook fully)
Bring water, old bay, garlic and sausage (include some of the grease from browning) to a boil in a large stew pot
after boiling, add potatoes and cook for 30 minutes
add corn, then taste for seasoning and salt/pepper as necessary
cook for an additional 25 minutes
stir in shrimp and cook for 4-6 minutes
remove from heat immediately and serve in bowl with juice - great with sweet corn bread

Here's my recipe for Frogmore Stew, sometimes called a low country boil.
My dad cooked this for us when I was a kid in Charleston - its damn good.
Contrary to the name, frog is not an ingredient - sorry.
